16 lis 2018 · At this scale the Earth is now only 0.05mm in diameter. With this new scale in hand let’s revisit Proxima Centauri. We now have two globes, one, the Sun, 5mm in diameter and the other, Proxima, about 0.7mm separated by over 145km.
From the diameter of Earth (12800 km) and its measured diameter in millimeters (4.5 mm) the scale of the image below is 12800/4.5 = 2840 km/mm. The separation from the center of Earth to the Moon ‘dot’ is 126.5 mm or 126.5 mm x 2840 km/mm = 359,000 km.
Set up a scale model of the positions of Earth and Apollo 17 by placing a globe on a table and standing back from it at a scale distance representing 40,000 kilometers. To determine that distance, measure the diameter of the globe in centimeters. This can be done with dividers or by wrapping a string around the globe.
31 sty 2016 · Explore the true scale of the universe and gain a new perspective on Earth's smallness. Discover how it compares to the solar system, Milky Way, and beyond.
