I am using windowed mode + textractor because I often look up words or translations, fullscreen would make this difficult. Newer games can be resized in window mode, but not older ones. But when i play older VNs the windowed mode is often too small to see anything, because i have a 4k monitor.
In the case of separate files, you'll need to be drawing at a higher resolution, ideally 2x (so: 3000px tall (FHD), 2000px tall (HD)), and then export the normal sprites at half resolution and the closeups at full resolution.
