6 wrz 2019 · The Latin poet Horace had a very important role within early-modern culture. He was seen as a repository of philosophy (mainly ethics, morals, and poetics), a guide to virtuous behavior, as well as a literary authority in terms of style.
Distinguished scholars of diverse background and interests introduce readers to a variety of critical approaches to Horace and to Latin poetry. Close attention is paid throughout to the actual text of Horace, with many of the chapters focusing on reading a single poem.
