The answer is yes, there are suitable alternatives to Honda MTF. Honda actually states in the manual that 10W-30 engine oil is good as a temporary replacement. But Honda MTF II is not like the original. It has a lower viscosity, and most likely a different additive package.
For Honda vehicles specifically, the owner’s manual will provide the most accurate recommendation for when to replace the Honda MTF-3 or equivalent transmission fluid. For instance, Honda often suggests replacing the transmission fluid under usual driving conditions every 90,000 miles or every 72 months, whichever comes first.
1 wrz 2014 · I use MTF3, they have all the right additives for Honda gearboxes, remember that Honda gearboxes are all designed and manufactuered by Honda themselves unlike most other manufacturers, so it is all propierty design.
3 mar 2015 · there is the following footnote regarding the fluid: [1] Genuine Honda MTF, P/N 08798-9016. In 2007 Honda. released Honda Manual Transmission Fluid, P/N 08798-9031 which is backwards compatible.

13 mar 2015 · The 9th gen calls for genuine Honda manual transmission fluid with 5W-20 used as a temporary solution until the real deal can be found. FWIW, I'm going with GM Synchromesh at my next oil change. Job looks easy. Get some ratchet extensions and make sure you can remove fill bolt before you drain.
