I have a gigabit router (TP-LINK C9) and a on board network card supporting gigabit (Intel 82567lf gigabit), yet when I plug in the network cable, all I see is 10 Mbit connection. How do I set the networking speed to 100 Mbit or 1 Gbit?
10/100 means that Ethernet interfaces can negotiate or get fixed to operate at 10 or 100 mbps, often with duplex options. That does not guarantee throughput, nor provide a committed transmission rate. It simply means that your Ethernet interface can work at either speed.

A loosely-connected cable can cause a speed drop for a high-speed 200 Mbps/300 Mbps or faster connection where the network will default to 100 Mbps. To fix this, disconnect the Ethernet cable from both your router and computer and reconnect it after around 30 seconds.
