30 lis 2022 · The Formby's finish is a mixture of 100% tung oil and old fashion varnish. I don't know the ratio but you might get some flat varnish and mix it with tung oil. I would start with a 50/50 ratio and go from there.
20 lip 2005 · There are so many variants of the varn-oil finish. I used to use Jere Osgood's formula from the 60's - equal parts oil (tung or linseed), varnish, and turps/min spirit. The important thing is to use polymerized oil (boiled and/or dryers added).
You apply tung oil just like linseed oil or oil/varnish blend, but you have to sand tung oil after every coat, not just after the first, and it takes five to seven coats, allowing two to three days drying time between each, to achieve a smooth, attractive sheen.
