30 lis 2022 · The Formby's finish is a mixture of 100% tung oil and old fashion varnish. I don't know the ratio but you might get some flat varnish and mix it with tung oil. I would start with a 50/50 ratio and go from there.
20 lip 2005 · There are so many variants of the varn-oil finish. I used to use Jere Osgood's formula from the 60's - equal parts oil (tung or linseed), varnish, and turps/min spirit. The important thing is to use polymerized oil (boiled and/or dryers added).
22 kwi 2022 · Formby no longer sells their tung oil finish. I think it actually was a wiping polyurethane. I tried a few other "tung oil" finishes and don't like any of them.

21 gru 2014 · Formby's is a wiping varnish stopped using it years ago. I make my own using 50/50 mix of resin (Polyurethane or Varnish) and mineral spirits. Normally take two coats of wiping varnish to equal one coat of film finish.
