Three companies made heliborne assaults into the Saigon suburb of Hoc Mon, which the Viet Cong had overrun the night before. The American force immediately began clearing operations. In the early stages of the fighting around Cu Chi, the 3rd Bn, 22nd Inf and the 4th Bn (Mech), 23rd Inf bore the brunt of the action.
The story that had become known as the Hoc Mon 500 was racing through the Squadron from man to man like wildfire. It seems that Johnny Johnson, a man of no small appetites, had cranked up a new tank in the motor pool back at Cu Chi and tried to bring it out to where we were loggered south of Tan Son Nhut.
27 mar 2015 · During TET 68 the battalion moved at the beginning of February from the Dau Tieng Area of Operations to fight near Cu Chi and at Hoc Mon. After Tet the battalion took over security of Tay Ninh Base Camp, and finally found a new new home north of Trang Bang at Fire Support Base Pershing.

In 1968, I served as an Army social work and psychology specialist in Company D of the 25th Medical Battalion of the 25 th Infantry Division at Cu Chi and Tay Ninh, Vietnam. Medical units like mine were where “the score was kept” in the Vietnam War.
