I have not heard back after a week (previous responses were within 2 days). I verified through the county tax assessor's website that the property is owned by the same name as is listed on VRBO. The property has 9 reviews over the past 2 years and the posting seems (italicized) legit.

The key is that if a location is asking for a lot of money up front, even via PayPal, it's likely a scam. Reputable places will ask for a smaller deposit, or at least take a credit card. In my case, I went to PayPal right away, and the funds got put on hold until the matter was resolved.
3 cze 2024 · Research the rental property. Do an online search for the owner's name and/or the property’s address. Look for complaints online, watching for any reports of scams or dishonest behavior.

24 paź 2024 · My favorite part was that all bedrooms are masters with your own bathroom. This is the perfect set up, especially when traveling with couples only. The downstairs area is great and even has a pool down by the dock. The most impressive part was how clean everything was!
17 gru 2023 · The scam: she pretends she has permission to rent a place, rents it, collects the money, and it turns out the landlord had no clue she was renting it out. What’s worse is the frustration and headache the renter has to go through to find a new rental.
