A telephone directory, commonly called a telephone book, telephone address book, phonebook, or the white and yellow pages, is a listing of telephone subscribers in a geographical area or subscribers to services provided by the organization that publishes the directory.
The dates of the directories span most of the 20th century. The Library's United States telephone directory collection consists of 8,327 digitized reels of microfilm; of these, about 3,500 are presented in this collection. The remainder of the collection may be requested from the Microform Reader Services (LJ 139).

11 lip 2016 · From its humble beginnings the phone book began to grow and grow, just as telephones became more popular. In major cities like New York City, Boston, and Philadelphia, the official White Pages contained millions and millions of names. Some cities, like San Francisco, even had special phone books.
