17 wrz 2024 · Welcoming famished travelers for over 160 years, from the days of the highly-traversed Santa Fe Trail to the present, Hays House in Council Grove Kansas has been serving hearty meals since it was established in 1857.
The building that today houses the Hays House 1857 Restaurant and Tavern was built by Seth in 1857 and sits straight on the Santa Fe Trail, now Main Street, Council Grove. From the mid-to-late 1800s, this restaurant and trading post was also the site of many other local activities.
17 gru 2015 · Following a kitchen fire in 2011, some 25 citizens, led by Council Grove resident Tim Tyner, came together to purchase this historic bar and restaurant and restore it to its former glory.
14 sty 2023 · The Hays House lays claim to being the oldest, continuously-operating restaurant west of the Mississippi River. Seth Hays, great-grandson of Daniel Boone, was Council Grove’s first permanent settler. He came here in 1847 to trade with the Kaw (Kansa) Indians, who purchased guns, blankets, flour, and tinware from him.
