By the 1840s, travel to Oregon and California had begun and thousands of wagons passed through Fort Leavenworth on the way to the Santa Fe and Oregon Trails. In 1854, the City of Leavenworth was founded as the very first city of Kansas.
As the main repository of the Leavenworth County legacy of history, the Society has continued its mission of discovering, preserving and sharing that history. The Carroll House serves not only as a house museum of Leavenworth artifacts, but also as an archive and research center of that history.

Inside is a diverse, yet cohesive, array of exhibits, displays, collections, and collectibles—more than one thousand!—that tell a balanced story of Leavenworth, the first city incorporated in the then-new State of Kansas in 1854.
Feth & Feth, local architects designed this and many other city halls, courthouses and schools in the greater Kansas City area. This building is an excellent example of the Classical Revival architectural style favored by private and public institutions during the early 20th Century.
Come Home for the Holidays! Held annually Second Sunday of December, 12pm - 5pm. Visit Historic Leavenworth, steeped in the history of its early residents. Tour benefits the Carroll Mansion Museum, where history has been witnessed since 1858.
