It would be simplistic to assume that the “truth” of the Muses about the genesis of all the gods the Greeks have in common would ever be conferred upon just any poet. Hesiod’s Theogony in fact presents its composer as the ultimate poet.
Hesiod begins by calling upon the Muses to sing a song of their father, Zeus, and in so doing, he attributes to "great Zeus" the general power to make mortal men famous or not famous, spoken of or not spoken of.
