1930s. 1940s. - 1948 - Zoo expansion, construction of Miller Hill, lease of 4.5 acres to the Museum of Natural Science outside the zoo’s boundary. 1950s. - 1957 - Miniature Train opened in the park. - 1958 - “Grand basin” expanded and opened as 4-9-acre Hermann Park Lake. 1960s. - 1968 - Miller Outdoor Theatre.
Houston’s Hermann Park has been a treasured oasis of green and blue in the heart of the city since its open-ing nearly a century ago.
Hermann Park is a 445-acre (180-hectare) urban park in Houston, Texas, situated at the southern end of the Museum District. The park is located to the immediate north end of the MD Anderson Cancer Center at Texas Medical Center and Brays Bayou, east of Rice University, and slightly west of the Third Ward.
