11 sty 2010 · The most important component of managing a child with hepatic encephalopathy is basic intensive care with regulation of fluid status, glucose and electrolyte homeostasis. Specific management includes measures to reduce serum ammonia concentrations, and the prevention and prompt treatment of complications.
Overt encephalopathy and survival. When encephalopathy develops, the prognosis deteriorates rapidly. In patients who do not undergo liver ransplantation, the survival rate at one year is 42%, and the survival rate at three years is 23% in adult groups (31).
