22 maj 2021 · The road to the upper mine is a much easier drive in than the first, but like the first is a relatively short flat hike in if you would rather, eventually arriving at the upper mine. We definetly suggest leaving lots of time to explore this beautiful area, happy exploring!!
Historic Hedley Mine. People have lived in the Similkameen River valley for 7000 years. First Nations people mined and extracted ochre for paint, chert for arrowheads, along with opals, quartz crystals, and gold, for trade and personal use. Hedley Town was built in the middle of Indian land.
Hedley's Museum offers historic mining displays, a superb photo collection, a 1904 cabin and barn, a heritage park with picnic tables & mining artifacts.
This trail to the famous olf French Mine is to the right off the main Hedley Nickelplate Road, sometimes called the Corkscrew Road, southeast of Hedley.
20 sie 2008 · Hedley, BC, Unincorporated Place, population 252 (2011c), 256 (2006c). Hedley is a pioneer mining community, 39 km east of Princeton in the Similkameen Valley. It is situated on Highway 3, the major southern trans-provincial highway.
The collection consists of maps of Hedley and other areas of the Similkameen Valley including subdivision maps, survey maps, forest cover maps, fire insurance maps, and mineral claims maps. Collection includes various plans of the Nickel Plate Mine (Kelowna Exploration Company) and architectural plans of mine houses (1936).
