23 maj 2013 · The opening phrase of 12:7 may be translated as either an indicative (NASB, “It is for discipline that you endure”) or an imperative (NIV, “Endure hardship as discipline”). Either way, the point of these verses is that discipline is a mark of genuine sonship.
Afflictions, rightly endured, though they may be the fruits of God's displeasure, are yet proofs of his paternal love to his people and care for them (Hebrews 12:6; Hebrews 12:7): Whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
