For the starters, we use two, 6-sided dice. Depending on the coin flip this gives them a chance to score 12 extra points if its heads, or lose up to 12 points if its tails. For the bench, same rules, we just use 1 dice instead of two, so they only can score up to 6 extra points, or lose 6 points.
