Student finance consists of different components, such as the basic grant, the supplementary grant, the student travel product, the interest bearing loan and the tuition fees loan (for HBO and university only).
For MBO level 3 or 4, HBO, and university programmes, the basic grant is a ‘performance grant’. This means the basic grant becomes a gift if you obtain your diploma within 10 years. If you do not obtain your diploma within 10 years, you will need to repay the full amount, plus interest.
In principle, you can apply for studiefinanciering if you are enrolled in university, higher professional education (HBO), or secondary vocational education (MBO). What does studiefinanciering contain?
Then you will be entitled to a grant for students living independently, even if you remain registered at your parents’ address. Log in to Mijn DUO to update your living situation. Go to ‘Mijn producten’.
How to apply. Make sure you apply in time as it may take several months for your application to be processed. You will need a Dutch BSN number (Citizen Service Number) and a DigiD account, which provides access to online services provided by Dutch government agencies.
