27 wrz 2024 · The muscles that act on the hand can be divided into two groups: Extrinsic muscles – located in the anterior and posterior compartments of the forearm. They control crude movements and produce a forceful grip. Intrinsic muscles – located within the hand itself. They are responsible for the fine motor functions of the hand.
The anatomy of wrist, thumb and hand is complex because of the presence of many different functional joints: the distal radioulnar joint, the wrist joint (containing the radiocarpal and the intercarpal joints, the carpometacarpal joints, the trapezium–first metacarpal joint), the metacarpophalangeal joints and the interphalangeal joints.
