Hair is a derivative of the epidermis and consists of two distinct parts: the follicle and the hair shaft. The follicle is the essential unit for the generation of hair. The hair shaft consists of a cortex and cuticle cells, and a medulla for some types of hairs. Hair follicle has a continuous growth and rest sequence named hair cycle.
In this review, we present basic concepts of hair follicle biology and summarize important recent advances in the field. Hair is composed of terminally differentiated, dead keratino-cytes (trichocytes), which are compacted into a fibre of amazing tensile strength, the hair shaft.
the dense, cohesive mass ofkeratinized cells called the hair shaft. As cells are added at the base of the folliele, the shaft moves out and hair "grows" (Fig. 1.5). The hair is enclosed within the follide by the inner root sheath. This inner sheath terminates elose to the follicle's upper isthmal portion (adja cent to the secretory duct ...
1 lis 2010 · Hair can be engineered at different levels—its structure and surface—through modification of its constituent molecules, in particular proteins, but also the hair follicle (HF) can be genetically...
11 sty 2023 · The shaft is the visible part of the hair that sticks out of the skin. The hair root is in the skin and extends down to the deeper layers of the skin. It is surrounded by the hair follicle (a sheath of skin and connective tissue), which is also connected to a sebaceous gland.
Skin structure The skin is composed of two layers: the epidermis and the dermis (Figure 1.1). The epidermis, which is the outer layer, and its appendages (hair, nails, sebaceous glands and sweat glands), are derived from the embry-onic ectoderm. The dermis is of mesodermal origin. The epidermis The epidermis is a stratified squamous epithelium,
It is a complex epithe-lial and mesenchymal tissue comprising a multilayered stratified epidermis, adnexal structures such as hair follicles, sweat glands and sebaceous glands, a dermis containing collagen and elastic bres, and underlying subcutaneous fat.
