This guide is an overview of the different ways to acquire gear for level 80 PvE and PvP content. You should already have an idea of the build which you want to play. But don't panic.
With End of Dragons just having launched, Metabattle has been busy getting builds for the new specs ready to go. We have builds for all game modes, but as I went a bit insane on the endgame PvE sections, I'll highlight that here:
Generally metabattle is a good place to start for anything. If you want more optimized builds (meaning you need a better party and need to play better yourself) there are a whole bunch of sites that specialise in different things. For wvw I'd flat our recommend metabattle.
Metabattle is decent for beginners, people totally new to WvW who need a quick template; beyond that I'd steer clear of it. For zerg builds I'd go GW2Mists, and for roaming I'd go YouTube - there are some fantastic theorycrafters out there e.g. Taygeta, Paper Roll, GW2 Chief, Spudzie, Risen Howl, Solemn GW2 and Rektyu to name a few.
