Upon successful completion of the Wildland Fire Academy the student will receive fire service certifications, a SCCOE/CTE Certificate of Achievement and eligibility to apply for California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE).
Below you'll see the hiring standards for Fire Fighter I and available training links for each qualification. This is primarily geared toward those who have not completed an accredited State Fire Fighter I Academy. Training is available through fire departments, community colleges with fire programs, and private entities.
Requirements and Training. You must be 18 years of age at the time of your appointment to Firefighter I. You will be required to follow oral/written directions, do heavy physical work, exercise good judgment in hazardous emergency activities, be willing to live in remote areas and work on weekends/holidays.
