This final project aims to address issues relating to gray wolf habitat fragmentation by assessing the suitability of habitat in northeastern Wisconsin by Lake Superior, near where existing federally designated critical habitat for gray wolves exists (USFWS, 2022b).

Gray wolves have a circumpolar range including North America, Europe and Asia. The wide range of habitats in which wolves can thrive reflects their adaptability as a species and includes temperate forests, mountains, tundra, taiga, grasslands and deserts.

Habitat Status. Gray wolf habitat has been reduced drastically. “At one point the gray wolves covered 66% of the Lower 48, United States.” (Habitat status: Listing and Delisting of Wolves in the US, 2020). Today, we see with habitat loss that the gray wolves only cover a fraction of the land they used to, about 10%.
