The Marrah Mountains rise out of the Darfur Plateau in the west. This area of Sudan hosts the tallest peak in the country, the Deriba crater which is 3,042 m tall.
Sudan is located in Northeast Africa. It is bordered by Egypt to the north, the Red Sea to the northeast, Eritrea and Ethiopia to the east, South Sudan to the south, the Central African Republic to the southwest, Chad to the west and Libya to the northwest.

The Blue Nile begins at Lake Tana in Ethiopia [11] and flows into Sudan from the southeast. The two rivers meet at the Sudanese capital of Khartoum. [12] The northern section of the river flows north almost entirely through the Nubian Desert to Cairo and its large delta, and the river flows into the Mediterranean Sea at Alexandria.
