9 lut 2010 · Some of the shortcuts on my desktop and start menu are missing their images. For example I have the Windows Live icon that is pinned to the taskbar but it is showing the default MS OS image (the one when the OS does not reconize the file the shortcut targets).

Fix Icons missing their specialized image: The problem occurs when the Desktop Shortcut icons are showing up as missing images even though the program is not uninstalled. Also, this problem is not limited to desktop icons as the same problem occurs for icons in Start Menu also.
22 wrz 2020 · Got up this morning to check necessities on my computer but noticed something missing, it was Google Chrome and the Google icons on my desktop and task bar.
It just doesn't want to display the icon image itself on the desktop in place of the "white paper" placeholder image. I've tried playing with the view scaling and no dice. Shortcuts that point to an .exe and use the EXE's imbedded icon display correctly.
