15 maj 2015 · • Goldmann applanation tonometry (GAT), introduced in the 1950s, is currently regarded as the reference standard. The method involves contacting an anesthetized cornea with a tonometer tip approximately 3.06mm in diameter and using fluorescein dye in the precorneal tear film to determine the force necessary to flatten the cornea.
The gold standard technique in measuring IOP is still Goldmann applanation tonometry (GAT); however, this procedure requires local anesthetics, can be difficult in patients with scarce compliance, surgical patients and children, and is influenced by several corneal parameters.
Goldmann tonometry procedure. Slit lamp set up: Place the probe in the probe holder. Make sure you support the neck while you do this. For traditional probes, line up the zeros. For Tonosafe, ensure the flat edge is at the top. Set the dial to the 15mmHg mark.

1 sty 2019 · Goldmann tonometer. Considered the Gold standard according to the AAO, a Goldmann is attached to a slit lamp and provides accurate and reproducible readings. Using a prism, it measures the force needed to flatten a 3.06mm diameter circle of the central cornea.
Goldmann applanation tonometry is based upon the Imbert-Ficke principle: such that the IOP measurement can be determined by the amount of force needed to flatten a fixed area of cornea.
