FPS games absolutely work on controllers. Goldeneye unfortunately only had 1 Stick, so its design took that into account. Every game is (or at least should be) designed for the intended control scheme. Its precisely why Halo works extremely well on the Xbox, but plays aweful on the PC.
What's the best way to play it on the PC? Question. In the 90s, I played every shooter but that on N64. It came out 2 years after the movie, so it seemed suspicious. All other James Bond games before sucked IIRC. So I assumed Goldeneye had to suck too. It just looked like it was going to be bad slap dash IP cash grab two years too late.
It plays almost exactly like Goldeneye Source. If Goldeneye were a PC game, and not an N64 game, it would play like this Also, I think not including single player is a fine option. The game is beloved for both, and they recreated one.
