11 maj 2003 · Area Status: Open. Gold Lake is the largest lake in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area. Its clear blue water spills into Frazier Creek and down to the Middle Fork of the Feather River. Native Americans came into the area for hunting and gathering and left no traces of permanent settlement.
Gold Lake Campground is in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area of the Plumas National Forest, 10 miles southwest of Graeagle. Visitors to the lake enjoy hiking, fishing, boating, mountain biking, horseback riding, swimming, and windsurfing. Trails connect Gold Lake to many of the other nearby lakes.
If you’ve never kayak-camped before, Gold is the perfect lake to test your backcountry gear and try out a new travel style. The 4X4 campground is accessible either by boat or high-clearance road (no ordinary SUVs here) and allows you to spend the most time on the prettiest piece of lake.
Area Status: Open. Gold Lake Campground is located along the shores of Gold Lake at an elevation of 6,400 feet. There are 37 campsites available. For the 2024 Recreation Season, all sites will be first come, first serve.
Gold Lake activities include; camping, fishing, boating, hunting, mountain biking, horseback riding, picnicking, backpacking, swimming, windsurfing and nature study. In the winter visitors can snowmobile, cross-country ski and snowshoe.
Incomparable paddling and camping opportunities can be found at this gorgeous high elevation alpine lake located in the Plumas National Forest. Gold Lake, unlike the other smaller lakes in the Lakes Basin Recreational Area, offers an assortment of aquatic pursuits.
