Chapter 1. 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
In Chapter 1, John begins with a majestic prologue, declaring Jesus as the Word who was with God and was God. He is the light that shines in the darkness. John the Baptist testifies about Him. Jesus calls His first disciples, and Nathanael acknowledges Him as the Son of God.
God sent John the Baptist as a witness to testify concerning the Light. John testifies that he is not the Christ, Elijah, or the Prophet, but the voice calling in the wilderness. He identifies Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1). This opening statement not only echoes the Genesis creation narrative but also establishes the eternal relationship between Jesus (the Word) and God, affirming Jesus' divinity and active role in creation.
God the Father, God the Son (see John 1:14 in The Word Became Flesh), and God the Holy Spirit. Is the Holy Spirit mentioned in the Genesis passage above? “And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters” ( Genesis 1:2 ).
The Word of Life. 1 In the beginning the Word already existed; the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 From the very beginning the Word was with God. 3 Through him God made all things; not one thing in all creation was made without him. 4 The Word was the source of life, [] and this life brought light to people. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has never put it out.
John 20:31 ...these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
