My current 2017 (4.8) trans programming is good. My only complaint with the 6 speed trans programming is that it favors fuel mileage, and engine braking (throttle lift) slowing down is practically non-existant. Tow haul mode gives you a bit of engine braking but not enough.

A good place to look is the NHTSA.gov for vehicle complaints/service bulletins/recalls gives you a heads up. I had a 21 sierra and that thing turned me away from Gm brand. Especially how GM dealers handled the issues.
