My dogs ride in the cargo area they seem happier there than in the open area of the rear seat - they are both larger dogs - over 30kg and @70 cm at the shoulder. I do have a seat cover for the back seat (gift) but it has stayed in the box.

My dog gets relegated to my wife's beater Accord currently. You can't beat the one made by BMW (although it is really, really expensive). Although designed for E90, it fits fine in F30 and looks great. Waterproof, thick enough to protect the leather, and it has panels to protect the doors even.
