28 sie 2018 · Giant hogweed forms dense monocultures due to its ability to out-compete native vegetation, and can have detrimental impacts on ecological communities, including in sensitive and vulnerable habitats. Hogweed populations are commonly found on riverbanks, as the seeds are readily dispersed downstream and deposited in the sediment.

4 paź 2021 · This study assessed the effect of giant hogweed invasion on the communities of plants and soil nematodes in the riparian habitat. We found that invasion by H. mantegazzianum increased soil pH, decreased carbon and nitrogen content, reduced the number and coverage of the native plant species, and influenced nematode communities and their structures.
Impacts. Giant hogweed grows earlier and faster than native vegetation and easily outcompetes native plants for resources which has a negative impact on native wildlife.
