30 sie 2024 · About 1,500 acres across the road from the monastery are open to the public for extended walks and hikes. There are miles of trails through the knobs on this side of the road. For trail maps, ask at the Welcome Center. Feel free to strike off on your ow, but take note of the turns you take.

Located 50 miles south of Louisville, the Abbey of Our Lady of Gethsemani was established in 1848 and is a Roman Catholic monastery in the Order of the Cistercians of the Strict Observance (also known as the Trappists).
There are limited rooms in the Retreat Center and reservations are taken only four months in advance for either a 3 night weekend retreat or a 4 night weekday retreat. Additionally, the first and third weeks of each month are reserved for women and the remaining weeks for men.
