3 lis 2015 · People who want to learn kanji. Genki is meant for people who want a foundation for becoming fluent in Japanese. If you want useful words for your vacation in Japan, Genki won't teach the words you'll need in a short enough study time. It's designed for university classrooms.
I would recommend not just prep books, but mock tests as well in the weeks leading up to the exam. The Japanese Times has its JLPT Best series, which should help you.
29 paź 2022 · Minna no Nihongo books are superior to Genki in many respects. I think so too having only gone through the second one a little. I’m not an expert on either book though. I learned from the Japanese for Busy People series which used to be top rated, but seem to have gone out of fashion.
No, you don't have to use Genki, but my advice would be to pick one respected textbook series and work through it consistently at least until N4. Jumping around tends to waste time and money. Not having some sort of structured study early on tends to leave gaps in knowledge that have to be filled later anyway.
