RACIAL AND GENDER IDENTITIES. Sasha Shen Johfre and Aliya Saperstein. KEY FINDINGS. Millennials are more likely than previous generations to identify as multiracial. Millennials also are more likely to adopt unconventional gender identities, such as reporting that they see themselves as equally feminine and masculine.
Using the 2015 Pew Survey of Multiracial Adults, we offer a more comprehensive analysis that considers gender differences at two distinct stages: reporting multiple races in one's ancestry and selecting multiple races to describe oneself. We also examine self-identification patterns by the generational locus of multiracial ancestry.
Gen Z is the most racially and ethnically diverse generation in history of U.S. with the millennials being second in being the most diverse cohort in U.S. history. Gen Z (70%) shares views with Millennials (64%) on the government serving a bigger role in social and political issues.
