7 sie 2020 · The primary objective of this study is to report the incidence of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and to describe the use of oral and IV iron supplementation in a consecutive population of adult patients who underwent bariatric surgery at our regional bariatric surgery center.
Ingested iron must be conjugated to vitamin C, amino acids, and sugars in the presence of gastric acid in the stomach to protect the iron from the alkaline secretions in the proximal duodenum. Absent that event, ingested iron is converted to unabsorbable ferric hydroxide.

19 maj 2021 · Most patients underwent Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (61.9%). Iron supplementation was most commonly administered orally for prevention of ID/IDA and was effective in 52% of studies. Both IV and oral iron were given for treatment of ID/IDA.
