The G added ninth chord (abbreviated Gadd9 chord) is a four-note chord consisting of the notes G, B, D, and A. The chord is formed by adding a major ninth to the G major chord. Often, a major second is played instead of the major ninth since they are the same note.
To form a G add9 chord, you simply include a 9th note (A) to a G Major chord (G, B, D). Such chords are referred to as added tone chords as they involve the addition of supplementary intervals to a triad.
