3 wrz 2022 · Recommended Frequency of Outpatient Follow‐Up and Treatment Among Term Infants, Older Children, and Adults With PDA. The burden of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) continues to be significant. In view of marked differences in preterm infants versus more mature, term counterparts (viewed on a continuum with adolesce...

Epidemiology. The incidence of isolated PDA is 1 in 2,000 live births and accounts for 5-10% of all congenital heart disease. However, if “silent” PDA’s (those that produce neither enough shunting for symptoms or an audible murmur) are included the estimation may be as high as 1 in 500. There is a 2:1 female to male ratio.
Most children with a small PDA have normal first and second heart sounds and peripheral pulses. A grade 1 to 3/6 continuous murmur is heard best in the upper left sternal border (see table Heart Murmur Intensity).
24 paź 2006 · Children and adults with moderate to large patent ductus frequently develop symptoms of congestive heart failure due to pulmonary overcirculation and left heart volume overload. If the ductus is large and offers minimal resistance to flow (nonrestrictive), the degree of shunting depends on the status of the pulmonary vascular resistance.
10 mar 2023 · The frequency for these normal heart sounds is usually between 20 to 150 Hz, but the frequency of the murmurs heard in the hearts with structural anomalies is higher and ranges between 100 and 1000 Hz .
20 sty 2015 · Abstract. This study presents a computer-assisted auscultation approach for patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) detection. PDA is a frequent congenital heart disease in neonates. The early detection of the PDA murmur from a neonate’s heart sound is important to avoid the development of severe respiratory diseases in newborns.
11 cze 2007 · The data consisted of heart sound recordings from 807 pediatric patients, including 88 normal cases without any murmur, 447 innocent murmurs and 272 pathological murmurs. The phono-spectrographic features of heart murmurs were examined visually and numerically.
