Request a Search Estimate. The U.S. Copyright Office offers a search service for persons interested in investigating whether a work is under copyright protection and, if so, the facts of the copyright. For a fee of $200 per hour or fraction thereof (2 hour minimum), the office will search its public records and provide a report of its findings.
Works registered prior to 1978 may be found only in the Copyright Public Records Reading Room. Can't find what you're looking for? Try our "Other Search Options". Search terms are not case sensitive. Search limits can be used with all "Search by:" options.
