Go to Settings > Apps > Default Apps > Choose App by file type, scroll down to .pdf and make sure your installed .pdf reader is chosen. If you have no preferred installed reader like Adobe, then choose Edge for default. Now try again downloading and opening .pdf files.

Typically I read in the pdf format. They also have loans of some newer books require Adobe Digital Editions. They have full texts but they tend to be imperfect OCR so I don't read those. Most likely you'd need a tablet or phone to read on. Also, their search sucks on the site, so use google instead (site: archive.org <book name>)

19 paź 2023 · On Windows, Microsoft Edge is the default viewer which is why the PDF files will always load in the browser. But, if there is a problem with your browser, PDF fails to open. In that case, you can right-click on the PDF file and open it with PDF Reader on your PC.
