Pharmacokinetic profiles have been described in humans, chickens, rabbits, cows, dogs, horses and weaning piglets. The low toxicity and potential efficacy of FOS are the main factors that contribute to its use in humans and animals.
Many MDR isolates are susceptible to nitrofurantoin. However, its use is associated with gastrointestinal upset and peripheral neuropathies which have been anecdotally reported in dogs. Other side effects occur in humans. An advantage to nitrofurantoin is its minimal effect on the normal gut flora.
16 mar 2014 · Fosfomycin (FOS) is a natural bactericidal broad-spectrum antibiotic which acts on proliferating bacteria by inhibiting cell wall and early murein/peptidoglycan synthesis.
Pharmacokinetics of disodium-fosfomycin in mongrel dogs.
9 maj 2023 · Nine Fosfomycin-resistant strains were found in dogs and three in cats and the fosA3 gene was detected in all but one canine isolate. Additionally, an interesting fact was that Fosfomycin-resistant isolates were more likely to be MDR than susceptible ones.
10 cze 2015 · In most previous case reports of successful fosfomycin treatment of prostatitis, combination regimens were used including doxycycline [1], ertapenem [9], and aztreonam [10]. Similar to others [1], we found the dose regimen routinely recommended for UTI (3 g every 72 hours [13]) to be ineffective.
