Fort Graham was a pioneer fort established in 1849 by Brevet Major R.A. Arnold (Companies F and I of the Second United States Dragoons) [1] at the site of Jose Maria Village, an Anadaca camp on the western edge of present-day Hill County, Texas.
Located near the eastern bank of the Brazos River at Little Bear Creek, 14 miles west of present-day Hillsboro, the fort was one of eight established after the Mexican War to establish Federal authority in the new territory.

3 paź 2019 · Fort Graham, a United States Army post, was established in March 1849 and was occupied on April 17 of that year by Maj. Ripley A. Arnold and companies F and I of the Second Dragoons under command of Bvt. Brig. Gen. William S. Harney, commander of the Frontier District of Texas.
Settlements pushed farther west in the 1850s, and the military built a second line of forts — including Fort Phantom Hill (near present-day Abilene), Fort Mason (Mason), Fort Belknap (Graham), Fort McKavett (Menard) and Fort Chadbourne (Bronte).
