This trail begins in Franconia Notch State Park and then enters into White Mountain National Forest. It is mostly wooded before rewarding you with a great view at the top. The upper section of the trail has a steep ledge that can be wet and dangerous at times.

It is considered one of the most difficult sections of trail in the White Mountains. (The most difficult, according to the AMC, is Huntington Ravine Trail.)
