The national flag of the Philippines (pambansang watawat ng Pilipinas) is a horizontal bicolor flag with equal bands of royal blue and crimson red, with a white, equilateral chevron at the hoist.In the center of the triangle is a golden-yellow sun with eight primary rays, to represent the original eight provinces that rebelled against the Spanish during the 1896 Philippine Revolution.

The flag of the Philippines has been adopted in 1946 when the country gained independence from the US. It was designed in the 19th century by the leader of the uprising against the Spanish domination Emilio Aguinaldo, who defeated the enemy on 28 May 1898 at the battle of Alapan.
