27 cze 2014 · The plant gets its common name from its sticky flowers that attract and then trap bees, flies and other insects. Tarflower occurs naturally in scrub, pine flatwoods and scrubby flatwoods. It is found in most of peninsular Florida, but its native range does not extend into the panhandle.

The leaves are simple, oval-shaped, mostly upright and arranged alternately along the stem. Both the stem and leaves are covered with stiff hairs. Tarflower blooms spring to fall — we've seen it as early as late January — but peaks in May and June. The flowers are large, white, white with a pink tinge to them or pink with a white tinge.
