If you have the patience to install all the graphics mods (or alternatively, pay a $2 or $3 donation to get an installer to do it all for you,) and if you can find the Roses and Wine mod, then I think the Steam port of the original is the best version.
I wanted to buy Final Fantasy VIII, but I don't know if I should buy the Remastered version or the older one. From what I've seen from the reviews, the Remastered version is crashing often, and I would prefer to avoid that, but the remastered one has better graphics.
Original or steam + mods. Original is simpler and it just works, but the mods look better than the remaster and the original. The only issue is the steam release is it is a pain to set up. After set up, it's fine.
14 kwi 2020 · Original is fully moddable, so you can upgrade backgrounds, textures, etc... to higher resolution with fan mods, etc. Remaster is still being decoded so that some of those mods will work. Plus the remaster took away some things such as full motion support.
