You can't just swap a port for two reasons : 1 they have a different number of pins 2 the USB controller (the chip that manages charging and USB protocols) is different
All you need is a USB extension. Clip the end off with the male tip and they are color coded and will match the controller port wiring. Solder in place and profit. Only the yellow won't match up as that's used for the light gun.
The way to fix it is to remove the charge port and solder a new one on. To avoid the issue don't use the controller while the cable is plugged in, that's how USB ports get torn up. I am having the same issue, at first I thought I had a bad cable, but I’m not sure it’s the actual controller C-port.
