This is a model of a pelvis of a human female. It is comprised of left and right ossa coxae (the “hip bones”), the sacrum (the large triangle-shaped bone that makes up the back wall of the pelvis), and the coccyx (the “tailbone”, which is the smaller triangle-shaped bone at the bottom of the sacrum).
Real human pelvis (ossa coxa). Scanned by students in Dr. Eric Bauer’s human anatomy lab at Elon University, North Carolina, USA.
The uterus and ovaries are involved in female reproduction, while the prostate plays a role in male reproduction. Detailed 3D models provide comprehensive views of these organs, their anatomical relationships, and their functions within the pelvis.
We present a computer program designed to visualize and interact with three-dimensional models of the main anatomical structures of the female pelvis. They are reconstructed from serial sections of corpse, from the Visible Human project of the Medical Library of the United States and from serial sections of high-resolution magnetic resonance.
