European Women’s Audiovisual Network (EWA) report, WHERE ARE THE WOMEN DIRECTORS? Report on gender equality in the European film industry, is the culmination of a two-year process and brings together comparative research from seven European countries: Austria, Croatia, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
It is a response by the European Women’s Audiovisual Network (EWA) to growing concern worldwide about the marginalisation of female directors in our film culture and aims to provide the evidence to inform policy change at national and European level.

14 wrz 2015 · At the 72nd Venice Film Festival, the European Women’s Audiovisual Network (EWA) presented the first findings from its pan-European study on gender equality amongst European directors.
According to data from the years 2017-2021 (both inclusive), women represented only 25% of all European feature directors, compared to 75% for men; for screenwriters, women account for 28%, 34% for producers, 39% for lead roles, 10% for composers and 10% for cinematographers.

Born in 1873, the filmmaker initially made films in France, but later moved to the United States. She went there with her cinematographer husband and made her own studio.
